Helpful tips from a wedding planner

We notice couples do forget a few things when it comes to planning their wedding (naturally its their first time planning such a big event!) so as a planners perspective we decided to include them in a post to remind our future couples getting married. We usually meet with our couples and run thru everything with them but thought we would share this with our readers and followers.

Find out what time the Sun is setting

Sunset is the golden hour for photographs, get your photographer to pull you aside for some magical photos. Remember to block off this time in your run sheet.

Wet Weather Plans

Although the weather is out of your control you can prepare for it ahead of time. Keep your eye out on the 10-day weather forecast and plan. We highly suggest you organise a backup plan and stick to it at least 5 days out from your wedding day. TIP/ pack waterproof mascara for both tears and rain. Think umbrellas and marquee if you have an outdoor location.

Comfortable shoes

Lets face it your dream wedding shoes arent going to be practical ! A little tip is to wear your wedding shoes around the house leading up to the wedding, so your feet are familiar with the shoes and they are semi worn in.

Wedding Signage

Whether it's a seating chart, gift table sign, or even just a 'Welcome to Our Wedding' signage even bathrooms signs can be easily be forgotten.

Designate Someone to Gather Up Gifts, Décor, and Personal Items

If you don't have a Wedding Planner, ensure you assign someone the role of removing personal items at the end of your day.

Something for Kids to Do

If you have a kid's table provide some drawing or craft activities for them to do in between formalities to keep them entertaimned.

A great idea we had recently when we were coordinating a wedding was the couple had arranged an entertainer for the kids , we have also had babysitters on site which worked well as their parents could enjoy the day.

Test Sound & Event Lighting

A small detail that makes a significant impact on the atmosphere at a wedding. The same goes for the sound and speakers for music and speeches.

Dietary Requirements of Guests - Your caterer will need this from you so they can prepare. There's nothing worse than inviting guests to your event and not being able to feed them.

Assign Someone to Take Your Wedding Dress.

Write Out a Do-Not-Play List for Your DJ

There are some songs you don't want the DJ to play due to lyrical content or personal preference. Either way, make sure that you give your DJ or band a list of songs you do NOT want them to play.

Hire A Wedding Coordinator!! This should actually be a MUST. You don’t want to be putting out small fires and dealing with suppliers and decisions the morning of your special day . Let someone else be in charge of everything so it runs smoothly and all you have to do is enjoy the day. Don’t start your wedding off with stress.
